The Sweet Applecakes

We had originally planned an outdoor shoot for the Applegate family. (No, their real name isn't Applecake, but that's how their young daughter pronounces it. It's the sweetest thing you'll ever hear.) Of course with the late November weather being colder than usual, the night before the session we decided to take the party inside. I gathered numerous props and backdrops and confiscated my husband's work lights since my lighting equipment was already set up in Monterey for my mini sessions being held the following day. I learned a lesson on that one. However, the work lights proved to be a very effective alternative, and I decided I may just need to borrow them again.

That morning, I rose with the roosters and began my setup. We don't actually live anywhere near roosters, so I'm just playing off the early rising rooster stereotype. Sorry, roosters, if that's unfair....

Rick, Annette and their daughter arrived around 9 am, and we started with some fun family photos. As with most younger children it took their little one a few minutes to warm up and start acting like her darling self. When she did come out of her shell, my heart melted. She has the most precious giggle. You can't technically hear that sweet giggle in the photographs. However, as you view her big grin it's easy to imagine the chuckling taking place. After a while, she even took a break to grab her comb and make us all pretty girls. Yes, that included Daddy. He was a great sport and was actually eating it up! Shhhh, don't tell.

In the end, we ended up with some fabulous family photos for them as well as some solo shots of their daughter stealing the show, as I imagine she does wherever she goes. What an amazingly lovely family! I'm happy to call them cousins. Enjoy the Applegates...
