After navigating multiple floors of adorable little shops I arrived on their third floor event venue, Bread and Chocolate. The rustic charm was everywhere with open ceilings, original wood floors and brick walls. I may have squealed a little as I excitedly began to photograph the couple's decor in the ceremony and reception areas. Lindsey and Jon had thought of everything, adding special details to their decor and sweet touches to make the whole day perfect for their family and friends attending.

The ceremony began, conducted by Lindsey's uncle, and he surprised them with some personalized rap stylings about their life together! Lindsey, Jon and all of their guests were tickled and loved the laughs that the lighthearted moment added to their ceremony. The happiness continued through the reception as they all had a blast and danced into the night, celebrating their marriage. I also loved how special they made the day for Jon's young daughter. The three of them were so sweet together, and it was a beautiful thing to watch them officially become a family.

Adam & Cassie | Rochester, Indiana Wedding Photography There are so many great things I could say about Cassie and Adam. Friendly is the word that keeps coming back to me as I think of this couple. During the first meeting I had with Cassie, she sat across from me in the studio with the sweetest smile and demeanor. Later, while photographing them both during their engagement on the farm, Adam was chatting about this and that as if we had all been lifelong friends. I could see this kindness and friendliness extended into their wedding day towards not only myself, but towards everyone they had contact with. Cassie and Adam had a large wedding with many guests, a testament to their ability to easily make friends. These two are a great match, each bringing certain personality traits to the relationship to perfectly complete one another. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Leeper!

Rochester, Indiana Wedding Photographer | Chrissy + Vince Chrissy and Vince had a lovely ceremony at the St. Joseph Catholic Church here in Rochester last month. It was so much fun watching these two together. They are truly the best of friends, and were so excited to be beginning their new life together. It was also sweet to see the bond Chrissy had with her family. Her Mom, sisters, and Dad all had to fight off tears when they saw Chrissy for the first time in her dress. Her first look with her Dad even had me getting emotional!

After their ceremony, family and friends joined them at the Akron Community Center for an amazing reception. An epic dancing entrance by the groom, a personal and unique first dance song for the couple, and a classy, choreographed father-daughter dance made Chrissy and Vince's reception extra special. However, it was especially great to see the bride's face light up when she witnessed what her family had planned for her. Apparently Chrissy had a dream in the past that everyone danced to the Safety Dance at her wedding. Not wanting to pass up on that opportunity, all eight of her siblings and their families learned the dance and surprised her with their performance. Her reaction was priceless!

I had so much fun with this couple and wish them the best in their new life together!

Travis + Ashlie | Rochester, IN Wedding The forecast called for a 100% chance of thunderstorms all day for Travis and Ashlie's outdoor wedding here in Rochester. While I know the forecast often changes, I wanted to be prepared for the potential foul weather, so I rush-ordered a beautiful, clear umbrella for the couple to use for portraits. Well, it turns out the best way to improve the weather is to be prepared for it. The day before the wedding, the rain disappeared completely, and it was to be sunshine all day! What a change!

Although this couple caught a lovely break from the weather, unfortunately there was another event that made their day bittersweet. The groom lost his grandmother unexpectedly just days before the wedding. Although it broke the hearts of everyone who knew her, their families were able to pull together in support and love to make the day a great one for Travis and Ashlie. This couple planned an elegant, yet rustic outdoor ceremony on their land complete with greenery and a gorgeous arch constructed from curtains. As they said their vows, their families and friends looked on from their homemade log seating, and the evening light streamed through the trees, shining down on the couple. In that moment as I was shooting, I couldn't help but think that it was the groom's Grandma, watching with delight from her new seat. It couldn't have been more beautiful.

I felt so privileged to be a part of this stunning wedding. Travis and Ashlie are so kind, and together they make one of the sweetest couples I've encountered. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Smith!

Chris + Jenny | Rochester, Indiana Wedding I adored Jenny the minute I first met her inside Jarrety's Place early last Spring. We sat down to discuss all of her wedding and engagement photography plans, and the conversation came incredibly easy, as if we had known each other for years. When I met her fiancé, Chris and her son at their engagement session, it was apparent that the two were an incredible match for each other. Jenny knows just what to say to Chris to make him laugh, and they seem to balance each other's personalities, Jenny being very outgoing and talkative, and Chris is quiet and a bit reserved. When you put them together, it's a perfect combination.

Jenny and Chris had their wedding at Jenny's home church, the St. Joseph Catholic Church, here in Rochester. Their ceremony was beautiful with both the bride and groom getting emotional as Jenny came down the aisle with her Dad. Their reception followed at The Back Forty in Bourbon. Jenny wanted to save the majority of her photos for after the ceremony to utilize The Back Forty's outdoor landscape. Her decision was fine by me! The woods offered a lovely backdrop, and close to sunset I took Jenny and Chris out to the pond for their portraits together. It was a lovely moment for the both of them to have some time alone together. I'm so pleased to have been invited to be a part of their special day. Congratulations to the new Branscom Family!

Sleeklens Portrait Perfection Review Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about ways of improving my workflow. I’m always looking for methods of speeding up my editing process without sacrificing quality, and the quicker I can get a client’s images back to them for viewing, it’s a win in my book! It was quite the coincidence then when Sleeklens contacted me last week about testing their action sets. In case you’re not familiar with the term, an action set is a set of steps in Photoshop or Lightroom that can be downloaded or created and recorded, then repeated over and over with the simple push of a button. They can be extremely helpful and time-saving to a photographer if there is a set of edits that they complete every time to achieve the look they desire.

I must admit, I was hesitant at first to try Sleeklens' actions. I’ve always enjoyed creating and using my own actions in order to create the look I love. I feel that there is an importance to knowing how to manually edit a photo rather than simply pushing a button and calling it good.  However, I wondered if there was something I could be missing?

To start, I tried Sleeklens' All in One and Base actions from the Portrait Perfection Workflow. The action sets went through numerous adjustments and changes at once and then flattened the image. I imagine these sets would be quick and easy to use if it gave you the exact look you wanted, but I personally would prefer to have more control over the edits. From there, I tested the more individualized actions such as Temperature, Exposure, Retouching, Enhancement and Web File Preparation. This is where I began to see the value, and could actually picture myself using a few of these actions more than the All in One sets.

In the end, I’m pleased that I decided to try out the Portrait Perfection Collection. Even though I was already implementing similar actions that I had created from my own editing process, there were a few that streamlined the process more than my own. Also, I can foresee these being very helpful for photographers who are just beginning to become comfortable with using Photoshop. For example, perhaps they know there is a color adjustment they need to make to their image, but just can’t seem to find that special tweak that makes it work. They can simply choose the action that best suits their needs, adjust the opacity and be done. In doing this, they can also study the action steps and learn the manual process of the edit as well. In conclusion, these actions are very helpful and thorough, and I would recommend them if you’re looking to speed up your workflow.

Ren + Staci | Rochester, Indiana Wedding I had been looking forward to Ren and Staci's wedding ever since these two rocked their engagement session back in April. I arrived at the salon first to grab a few photos of the girls getting ready, then we all headed to the groom's parent's property where the wedding was taking place. The anticipation was building for the bride and groom while we sought a private, first look location for them. We settled on a grassy trail in the woods, and Ren turned around promising not to peek. When Staci approached and tapped his shoulder, the reaction on his face was one for the books. Their excitement was ridiculously sweet!

After portraits were complete, the couple had their perfect outdoor ceremony with friends and families looking on. Most outdoor ceremonies I've photographed are gorgeous and laid-back, but this one in particular had an especially unique touch. To showcase their unity, some couples light a candle, some mix sand, but Ren and Staci decided to mix their favorite beers! Their guests applauded, loving the personalized idea! These entertaining moments carried on into the reception through the wedding party introductions, toasts, the dollar dance and a surprise appearance by "well-dressed" guest, who's photos I won't dare post on this blog! Those who attended know the reason. Ren and Staci's wedding was lovely and fun, a perfect celebration for this beautiful couple. It was truly a pleasure capturing their wedding day.

Kyle + Jessica | Rochester, Indiana Wedding The anticipation was building when I arrived at the Lakeside Cabin at Geneva Center to photograph Jessica and the girls having their hair styled. Emotions weren't easy to hide as the girls readied to celebrate the first of their friends to tie the knot. Once Jessica's hair was complete, she and a few of her bridesmaids went to have a peek in the mirror. I followed them in to find big smiles and happy tears streaming for all of them.

After the girls were complete, I proceeded down to photograph Kyle and the guys, and then guided Kyle over to the first look location in front of the reflecting pond. Jessica approached from behind escorted by her maids on the golf cart, and when she tapped her groom's shoulder the reactions were priceless. Kyle and Jessica embraced in a heartfelt hug, truly blissful to be marrying their best friend. After the two had some time to themselves, we began their portraits together. I had to tease the couple just a bit because before we began they claimed that they had never taken good pictures. "You're sure fooling me!" I told them. Kyle replied with, "Well, I'll bet we're taking good ones today because we're so happy."

The hugs and happy tears continued through the ceremony when the couple shared their vows and wed under the pavilion with their friends and family looking on. Everyone traveled to Akron to the Community Center to celebrate their reception which was beautifully decorated with lights intertwined with outdoor elements such as natural logs, succulents and ferns. Everything on their wedding day was perfect for this couple, as it should be for two people as sweet as them. Enjoy this peek into their big day.

Kristie & Nate's Engagement We had planned Kristie and Nate's engagement session for an evening this summer. However, with the thunderstorms on the radar approaching and looking imminent, we decided to make a last minute decision to move the session up a few hours. We were disappointed to miss our sunset plans, but the photos still turned out gorgeous and fun! We had chosen a pretty location on the river surrounded by trees to match the couple's laid-back vibe. Nate brought along his beloved truck to incorporate and these two had a blast just laughing, flirting and being adorable. Something tells me it comes natural to them. They truly were up for anything which made the session a blast. I can't wait to work with them again for their wedding next summer.

Addie & Noah | A Sibling Session I have always loved working with Addie and Noah. Aside from a short bout of shyness on Noah's part at the beginning of the session, these two littles love the camera and each other! Their interactions with one another are incredibly sweet, and their bond is a beautiful thing to witness. It's apparent how much Noah looks up to and adores his big sister, and Addie seems to be great at teaching and looking out for her little brother. They weren't shy about sharing hugs, playing and laughing together. It truly made this photographer's day, and made for some amazing memories for their parents to cherish!

The Ogle Family Darci contacted me this summer to redeem her gift certificate from this past Christmas that she had received from her Mom. She shared her vision to have the session on some property near her home, and she described the location as being filled with wildflowers, tall grass and thousands of blooming sunflowers. I could hardly wait! When I arrived for the session, I unfortunately learned that the sunflowers had finished early and were no longer in their prime, but we still found plenty of gorgeous spots to use as backgrounds for the family. These three were so kind, friendly and a lot of fun to work with. Their daughter was soon beginning college, and I could tell that these photos would be very special to her Mom. Enjoy this peek into the Ogle's family session.

Lane's One Year Session It was bittersweet when Lane came to see me for his one year session. I had been photographing Lane since he was three months old, and his Watch Me Sprout Package was coming to an end. It was so much fun to see how much he had changed between sessions, both physically and in his interactions. The smiles I was able to coax from him during his one year session were heartwarming, and slightly ornery! Lane's Mom always brought the coolest and most meaningful props along to incorporate, making for some very sweet photos for their family to cherish.

Patrick + Samantha | Argos, Indiana I was slightly disappointed as I traveled to Samantha's parent's house to begin their wedding photography coverage. The forecast threatened thunderstorms lasting the entire duration of the wedding day, and the bride and groom had planned a gorgeous outdoor ceremony. However, I kept my head high and knew no matter what that it would turn out beautifully.

The rain continued as we photographed the details and the girls getting ready. Then, something remarkable happened. On our way to the ceremony and reception site just before portraits began, the skies brightened, the radar cleared, and it was to be clear skies for the rest of the day! I was thrilled for Samantha and Patrick! They were able to have their lovely ceremony overlooking the sunflower fields and rolling grassy hills. With the sun shining down, this sweet couple said their vows and were happily cheered on by friends, family and their adorable son who took on the ring bearer role.

Their reception followed in the red barn with some impressive dancing by the wedding guests and hilarious shenanigans during the garter toss! Those who were there know how it went down! Patrick and Samantha's wedding couldn't have been more gorgeous, and I feel like one lucky photographer to have been chosen to capture it. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, and thank you!

Chelsea + Brad | Akron, IN Wedding I pulled into the parking lot of the secluded, little church where Chelsea and Brad would soon be married. Inside, the bride and her ladies were readying for the events ahead with hair and makeup. As I entered to begin shooting, I was greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome. Weddings are always especially fun when the families and wedding party treat you as if they've known you for years. After moving seamlessly through portraits, guests began to arrive and take their seats, and before long, Chelsea was walking down the aisle towards her future. (Whoa! That was deep, wasn't it?) :) Brad and Chelsea have been together for years, are two peas in a pod and the best of friends, so it was especially sweet for their families and friends to watch them finally say their vows to one another. After the ceremony, they had a fun and lively celebration just down the road at the Akron Community Center. Brad and Chelsea's wedding was creative, perfect and lovely, everything a gal would want to photograph. ;) It was a pleasure to be a part of it.

Brooke + Ethan | Logansport, IN Wedding I had looked forward to returning once again to Diamonds and Dust to photograph Brooke and Ethan's rustic outdoor wedding. The grounds were beautiful, and I always adore a classic red barn. The weather, however, had made alternative plans for the day. The showers began in the morning and showed no signs of ceasing. Indoors it was, and luckily the barns' interior was beautiful and adorned with country decor and twinkling lights.

The couple didn't seem to let the rain dampen their day and were just as sweet and laid back as during their engagement session. Their ceremony was flawless and beautiful, and the reception celebratory and fun. During the reception we were granted a short break in the down pour, so we took advantage and captured a few natural light portraits of Brooke and Ethan. The moments outdoors rounded out the day perfectly and allowed them a little time to themselves.

Even though the day didn't completely go as planned, Brooke and Ethan had their perfect wedding, and I felt so privileged to work with them and capture their special moments.

You'll be seeing these two love birds again. I'm photographing their wedding in October! :)

Vanessa's First Birthday Session Vanessa brought along her sweet smile to her First Birthday Session last month. Her hair and eyes were still the perfect blonde and blue that I remembered from photographing her six month session before Christmas. We began her session in a local park where Dad pulled up his old car to use as a prop. Vanessa loved standing in the driver's seat, playing with the steering wheel and checking out the local scene. Next we headed back to my place for the cake smash portion of Vanessa's session. She wasn't quite sure at first, approaching the cake multiple times in both a crawling and walking position. Once she got started on the frosting though, there was no going back.

Quinley's One Year Session As a lot of you know, I have a three year old son. Therefore, when I have the opportunity to photograph baby girls with all the ruffles, pink, lace and flower headbands, I'm over the moon. I felt this way about Baby Quinley's one year session when her Mom dressed her in a romper that encompassed all of the above details. Quinley had beautiful, dark brown eyes and adored being outside. The smiles truly emerged when Grandma brought out the family's antique blocks, a favorite toy of Quinley's. This session was a blast, and I'm so excited to be photographing this little one again in the Fall when she takes on her role as Flower Girl in a wedding.

Ethan's 18 Month Session The fact that I'm writing Ethan's 18 month blog has me baffled and just a bit sad. These little ones grow so quickly and I feel so thankful for having the opportunity to document the sweet little changes as the years pass. For this session, I met Ethan and his Mom at their house so we could get a few outdoor shots in the grass before taking Ethan and his pedal tractor out into the family's recently planted field. After a gold fish snack and a fair bit of running, Ethan changed into his overalls and we preceded into the corn. Just like a good little farmer, Ethan climbed off his tractor to check the soil.... dry. Perhaps that's why so much dirt covered the poor child's face when he tripped on a row. "That's okay!" I said to Mom. "That's the life of a farmer. Let's capture the reality of it."

The Garner Family Session I was very much looking forward to working with the Garner Family once again. I had photographed their daughter, Mallorey, last year for her third birthday, and she was sweet, fun and had a blast posing. This year was no exception! The family arrived coordinated in one of my favorite colors, and Mallorey and her Mom even had matching shoes! It could have possibly been one of the cutest things I've seen, and I see a lot of cute things! (Remember, I photograph babies and folks in love.) As always it was an absolute pleasure, and I hope to see these three again soon.

The Eaton Family I drove out to the corner of an old country road to meet Missy and her son for their session. Missy mostly wanted photos of her son, Jarhett, on his own but wanted to attempt to get a family shot with both of their dogs, one of which is young and very high-spirited. Hmmm ....challenge accepted. While it took a bit of work and a few "practice" photos as you can imagine, in the end we were able to capture a nice shot of the four of them together.

After those photos were complete, Jarhett became the star and had a blast doing photos with his canine brothers. We then moved around the yard to all of his favorite places for his photos on his own. This brown-eyed cutie doesn't go anywhere without his hat and boots, so what better way to capture him? It was such a pleasure working with this sweet, laid-back family, and I can hardly wait for future sessions.

An Evening with Flirt Boutique Have you ever heard that famous expression, "Girls just want to have fun?" I'm here to tell you folks's truth.

I met up with the girls of Flirt Boutique here in Rochester, Indiana for a photo shoot this past month. All eight ladies stepped out looking flawlessly fabulous in their coordinated dresses. We walked the downtown streets until we found the perfect brick backdrop to showcase their attire. We then proceeded to take bets on how many honks these beauties would receive during the photos. I can't remember who won the bet, but it was whichever gal guessed the highest number.

After a quick wardrobe change, we all proceeded to a private field filled with purple wildflowers, the perfect scene for their new looks. We had so much fun picking flowers, twirling and laughing together. What better way to spend an evening with your best girls?

Want to know the best part about shooting a session for Flirt Boutique? It's delivering their photos to the store and therefore having an excuse to do a little shopping. ;) Enjoy these kind, smart, gorgeous girls' session.

Jenny + Chris | Rochester, IN Engagement I had been looking forward to this engagement session ever since talking with the future bride, Jenny, during our first meeting. Jenny told me her story and revealed some of the hardships she's been through in recent years. What was incredibly sweet was when she explained how thankful she was to have found Chris, and how wonderful he is to Jenny and her son. It makes my heart swell to recall her words.

In the evening when the sunlight was just turning to honey, Jenny, Chris and their son joined me to capture a few family photos before beginning some shots of just the couple. The little man was adorable and did a fantastic job of holding his sign. We all had a blast, and I adored the amount of laughter these three can produce when they're together. I'm very much looking forward to this wedding next year!

The Smith Family It was just becoming good and steamy out when I met the Smiths for their family session in the early afternoon. These three were so sweet and kind, and I loved that they brought along their dog, the youngest member of the family. They walked along with me through the park in their perfectly coordinated red, white and blue-themed attire. Even their dog was flawlessly matched with an adorable feather in her fur. We worked through some poses then just took a break to let this awesome family be truly themselves for some shots. Thank you Smiths for the fun time!

Harper | One Month Session Baby Harper came to see me just before she turned one month old. She hadn't been photographed as a newborn, so I was excited that I was asked to capture her debut, and boy was it a sweet one! She was curious as could be checking out her surroundings and perking up every time she heard Mom and Dad's voice. Despite our persuasive coaxing, Harper wasn't necessarily a fan of sleep during her session. However, because of this we were able to photograph something we don't always have the opportunity to capture during a newborn session; those gorgeous eyes! Enjoy this sweetheart.

Sean + Cassie | Huntington, Indiana Wedding It's accurate to say that I adored these two from the first time I met them to discuss their wedding. Their creative ideas, thorough planning and fun personalities all came together to create one of the most unique, beautiful and heartfelt weddings I have photographed. With their friends and family witnessing, the couple married on stage in the New Huntington Theater in a tear-jerker ceremony with custom vows written by the groom. Their celebration began with dinner, toasts, cupcakes and hugs galore and carried on into the night with laughter and dancing. Kristin + Tony | Syracuse, IN Wedding I was thrilled the day I received an email request from Kristin asking if I would be interested in being their wedding photographer. Kristin is my husband's cousin, which meant I would be photographing their wedding while surrounded by family. How fun!

Kristin and Tony had an exciting day planned ahead, and the weather was already shaping up to be one for the books. We had experienced chilling temperatures and snow storms leading up to their wedding day. When it finally arrived, however, sunny and 75 was in the forecast, and we all couldn't be more excited. Their ceremony was held in the All Saints Episcopal Church at the edge of Lake Wawasee, and their reception followed just minutes away at Oakwood Resort. Both locations were gorgeous and offered dreamy spots on the grounds and lakeside for their portraits. I'm so happy for this sweet couple and wish them well in their new life together.

Rochester, IN Senior Photographer | Hannah I had the privilege of photographing Hannah's senior session, and we had a ridiculous amount of fun. I had known Hannah for a while since working with her Mom a few years back, but I had gotten to know her better this past year since she began babysitting for Easton. Hannah is such a sweetheart, kind-hearted and has a love for animals like no other. At the end of her session we were able to do some photos of Hannah and her dog, a beagle her family had rescued a few years before. I believe in the end those photos will be treasured the most by Hannah because they highlight the bond between them.

Rochester, IN Engagement Photographer | Staci & Ren We were blessed with gorgeous weather the evening of Staci and Ren's engagement session. The couple brought their dogs along for the beginning to get some family photos. They were so well-behaved and sweet that we didn't even have to break out the treats. The couple also told me all about the rest of their pet pack at home, including multiple turkeys! How cool is that?

The friendship and bond these two share is one of the cutest things you'll ever witness. You can see it in the photos in their laughter, playfulness and pure joy to just be in each others' company. It was a pleasure to capture their relationship through the lens, and I have to admit I can't wait for the wedding! Is it September yet?

Northern Indiana Child Photographer | Spencer I absolutely adored this session that I had with my nephew, Spencer, to mark his four year milestone. Spencer has always been a ball of energy and had a blast during our sessions together, but this time I felt like his personality especially shined through. He told secrets, gave me his cheesiest grins, stopped to smell the flowers, and even struck a pose or two. Check out all the cuteness, a little boy being a boy.

Northern Indiana Engagement Photographer | Andrea & Todd I'll start this post by admitting that I'm a little biased towards this couple. There's no use hiding it. I've been friends with Andrea for as long as I can remember, so when she asked me to shoot her engagement session I could hardly contain my excitement. I was so excited in fact that I showed up about an hour and a half too early for their photos. With the lighting still a little harsh, we decided to head up to the North Judson fire station where Todd is a firefighter. While we were in the middle of photos, the station received not just one, but two fire calls! I think Todd was a little disappointed to have to stay behind.

We then drove to Todd's parent's home to take photos in the yard with Todd and Andrea's dog Brick. He loved rolling in the grass, hanging with his parents and had us all laughing as he showed off for me and the camera. (Brick that is, not Todd) Of course the fire engines, by coincidence, just happened to pass the yard on their way back to the station, and the guys didn't hesitate to blow the sirens and give Todd a hard time.

For our final location, we headed out to a pond so Andrea and Todd could do a little fishing together, one of their new hobbies as a couple. We were given the perfect ending to our session with a golden sunset on the field's horizon and this sweet duo having the best time together.

Rochester, IN Senior Photographer | Taryn I had so much fun with lovely Taryn and her Mom when we met for her senior session at a local park here in Rochester. This pair is so fun and sweet making it more like shooting with friends rather than "clients." Any time Taryn stepped away to change outfits her Mom had to brag on her a little, as every mother does and should. Her daughter wasn't only sweet, kind and gorgeous, but also was named Salutatorian of her class! How impressive is this girl?

Rochester, Indiana Family Photographer | An Extended Family Session For their family session, I met with Ashley, her Mom, sisters and all their families out at a historic round barn just miles from my own home. Many times I had driven past the barn, only dreaming to one day use it as a photo location. I arrived to warming smiles, hilarious jokes and familiar faces. I had photographed the wedding of Ashley's niece only months before, so it was especially fun to have the opportunity to work with this family again.

Rochester, Indiana Child Photographer | A Brother's Session I met these two cuties and their parents to document the boys' milestones. Big brother was turning two and his little sidekick was just reaching three months old. The two showed up looking dapper in their matching polo's and plaid, so I couldn't wait to get started. We began the session indoors but ultimately decided to take advantage of the mild weather March was offering us, so we traveled to one of my favorite outdoor spots. (Sorry, that's a secret folks.) They loved hanging outside, exploring their surroundings and just being together.

Northern Indiana Wedding Photographer | Jaime and Michael I must admit that I was slightly nervous heading into Jaime and Michael's wedding. I usually prefer to meet with my wedding couples at least twice and have an engagement session before their wedding day. However, Jaime and Michael were traveling up from Florida to get married among their friends and family in Valparaiso, Indiana, so our correspondence had been completely through email.

As soon as I met the couple though, all of my nerves were eased. These two are so easygoing, sweet and fun. This didn't surprise me, of course, once I learned of their professions. Both Jaime and Michael work at Disney World where happiness and a big smile are a part of your uniform. When photographing Jaime's bridal portraits I asked her to try out a serious look for a shot, and she immediately cracked a smile and started laughing. "I can't do serious. I work at Disney. I can't help but smile," she stated.

It was only natural then that Jaime and Michael planned a gorgeous Disney theme with the help of their venue coordinator at Aberdeen Manor. I was thoroughly impressed by the magical decor and professional staff at Aberdeen. The couple's theme was expertly carried through the decor, presentation and even the dinner service and music. Everything, including the couple, was flawless for Jaime and Michael's wedding, and it was such a privilege to photograph their best day yet.

Rochester, Indiana Newborn Photographer | Gatlin Newborn baby Gatlin's session was being planned just like every other. I had some backdrops and floor drops picked out. I'd chosen some cute props, blankets and coordinating outfits to use from my collections. Then I received a text with a different kind of request from Gatlin's Mom. "You want what in his photo?" I thought.

Alyssa and Garth, Gatlin's parents and dairy farmers, had longed to get a shot of their newborn son sleeping with one of their newborn calves. After much deliberation and planning, I agreed to head out to the calf barn to coordinate a shot of the newborns together. Gatlin's safety being my number one priority, we settled on creating a composition of the babies together in the hay. I left the farm with manure on my shoes and a warmth in my heart. It was such a sweet shot and well worth the extra effort.

A few days later, the Simpsons brought Gatlin to the house for the rest of his photos, alone and with his family and sister. Gatlin was quite the champion snoozer and seemed to enjoy his time in the spotlight. Enjoy this peek into his newborn session.

Northern Indiana Baby Photography | Lane's 6 Month Session Lane was all grins and belly laughs when he came by for his six month session. He brought along a few of his barnyard friends to cuddle and smooch, and he was right at home playing on my white fuzzy blanket. I especially love this six month stage when the babies are constantly grabbing their feet when laying on their backs. Something about it is sweet and innocent, and so very fleeting. Since we were granted some unusually warm weather that day, we moved the session outdoors and into the sunshine. Lane sat on a blanket and went to town playing with his hand-crafted wooden tractors and trucks, every farm baby's favorite toy. This little man is so incredibly sweet, and I can't wait to see him again when he's on the brink of turning one.

Rochester, Indiana Child Photographer | Keaghan's Two Year Session I couldn't believe it when I received the message, but it was time to photograph miss Keaghan already for her two year photos! It didn't seem so long ago that we planned her one year session complete with a homemade strawberry cake from Grandma, which she turned out to be afraid of. That's a whole other story though. Not having any big pink cakes in the house this time around, I was confident we'd get some smiles from this little beauty. Keaghan arrived in a lacy, vintage inspired dress finished with the best accessories. The outfit was ideal for a little princess. She danced, giggled, and played with flowers and pearls. It was the perfect session for a little girl.

Northern Indiana Newborn Photographer | Newborn Dylan Dylan, his Mom and big sister stopped in early in the morning for his photo debut. He resisted sleep at first having logged some uncharacteristic long hours the night before, but he soon gave in to the warmth and comfort of my triple threat: warm room, fuzzy blankets, tight and cozy wrap. Dylan's mom and I grew up together, so it was especially sweet photographing him during his first handsome days here. Take a peek for yourself. I think you'll agree on that handsome part.

Northern Indiana Engagement Photography | Samantha and Patrick Samantha and Patrick met me just outside of Rochester, Indiana for their winter engagement session. An earlier snow storm left us with a beautiful blanket of snow cloaking the ground, and the white landscape made the perfect backdrop for the couple to showcase their relationship. These high school sweethearts were adorable together and weren't the least bit shy when I asked them to snuggle close for poses. The chilly temperatures may have encouraged some of the cuddling. Samantha was a stunning model and Patrick has a background in photography himself, so these two made my job way too easy. I can't wait to work with the lovely couple again for their wedding this coming summer.

Rochester, Indiana Family Photographer | Campbell Family The Campbell Family was sure that they wanted their family session to take place in the snow, so all we had to do was wait for it. Being a mild winter, we had a surprisingly hard time finding a good snow storm that was able to paint their desired background. Finally, the snow we had been waiting for hit the landscape, and it hit hard. We began their session outside a neighbor's red barn, but the wind was so fierce and painfully cold that we were forced to another location. We chose to head into the woods where the wind would be somewhat blocked and the temperatures more tolerable. The Campbell's were such troopers and a lot of fun despite the conditions. We ended up with some great shots of this family in their winter wonderland.

Northern Indiana Child Photographer | Easton's Three Year Session It's hard to believe that my own little guy has turned three years old already! He was a perfect little model from the moment he was born, and the camera became a normal part of growing up with Mommy. After about six months old, he became quite the ham and would kick, squeal and smile any time I brought the camera out. That all changed, however, once he learned to walk and learned that it's more fun to escape when Mom wants to take a photo. This three year session was no exception to this change. I'm pretty sure in his own way he's boycotting his model status, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had actually caught this many smiles from him. There were plenty of ornery looks and meltdowns mixed in, might I add the meltdowns were over things such as rolled sleeves and the fact that I moved the stool one foot to the right. In the end though, that's what makes for an accurate documentation of my three year old, so I will cherish each and every shot.

Rochester, Indiana Photographer | Simpson Maternity I drove up to the Simpson's farm as dark clouds moved quickly across the sky. No storm, or even rain, was forecasted for the day, but it didn't stop Mother Nature from displaying her moodiness. As Alyssa, Garth and I trekked to the top of a grassy hill in the pasture, I decided the dark sky would actually be an asset to the session, offering a contrasting blue backdrop for the adorable couple. Alyssa was gorgeously glowing with her pregnant belly becoming to her, and she knew just how to work it when I asked her to walk through the pasture. She was a picture of confidence, even in the moments when she had to watch where she stepped. Enjoy meeting Garth, Alyssa and "still budding" Baby Gatlin.

Northern Indiana Child Photographer | Blair's Three Year Session Blair's family was in town from Florida visiting family over their Christmas vacation. I was honored then when they asked my to squeeze them in for Blair's three year photos while they were here. Blair was the flower girl in her uncle and aunt's wedding that I photographed this past October, so I had already had the opportunity to meet her. This time though, she got to be the star in the photos. I adored Blair's energy and enthusiasm about the session. Most kids arrive and are typically a touch shy about starting their session, but not Blair! As soon as she walked in the door, was ready to put on her princess dress and get started!

Northern Indiana Child Photographer | Jack's Two Year Session Jack and his Mom came by for his two year session, and it's hard to believe that I first began photographing him way back as a newborn. He's the typical two year old boy during a photo session. He stands in front of the backdrop for 1.8 seconds and takes off, runs, fast! They all want to desperately explore their new surroundings, and who are we to say, "Hmm, no. Just stand in this 5'x5' space for one hour." It's a little silly really. That is where distractions come in handy in the form of toys, monkey sounds, and in Jack's case, a box. Yes, Jack is in a box. We first discovered his love for sitting in boxes during his 18 month session, and we've run with this method ever since. Whatever works, right? I love working with this little guy, I love those gorgeous blue eyes and his energetic giggle. I can't wait to see you again Jack! You bring the smiles. I'll bring the box.

Northern Indiana Family Photographer | A Family and Six Month Session I met the Sroufe's for their first ever family session in early December. Since the dates coincided, we were also able to photograph their daughter, Vanessa, for her six month session at the same time. We met late in the day with just enough time to get some outdoor family photos in front of the gorgeous sunset. The coloring was beautiful and made a lovely backdrop for this adorable family. Then we headed indoors to let miss Vanessa have her spotlight. All the pearls, pink and lace were so incredibly sweet, it was almost too much to handle. I have a little boy, so when I get to photograph baby girls and all their tiny, pretty outfits, I just swoon. Here are all my favorite, swoon-worthy photos from their session.

Northern Indiana Family Photographer | The Osborn Family The wind was bone chilling the first day I met the Osborn Family for their session. Due to the difficulties of coordinating a large family's schedule, we decided to do two mini sessions on two separate dates. Unfortunately, the second date wasn't much warmer. The low temperatures didn't seem to phase the Osborns, however, as they joked and teased each other during the sessions. I would set up to photograph one of the four sons individually, and I would immediately hear the laughter begin behind me. Their upbeat attitudes and cheerful natures were so much fun, and I enjoyed every minute with them. Thanks for the laughs Osborns!

Northern Indiana Family Photography | The Alcorn Family Although it was surprisingly warm for the season, the rain was spilling down the morning of the Alcorn's family session, so we were forced indoors for their photographs. I wasn't too heartbroken however, since the back-up plan was inside the Alcorn's charming home. Jackie already had numerous spots picked out inside the house to backdrop the large family, and they worked out wonderfully. Although they hadn't planned it, even the entire family's attire perfectly coordinated with the wall colors! I just love when things work out beautifully.

Christmas Minis, 2015 | Bailey Warren Photography November was once again the month when I held my third annual Christmas Minis Event. I hosted more than thirty families over what turned out to be an unusually beautiful weekend for the month. The temperatures were mild, and the sun was shining as each family drove up the lane, one after another to the pine forest. Sparkling string lights, dancing Santa hats, and sweet candy canes left each family, and myself, with lasting smiles as they departed. It was such a great way to kick off the holiday season, and I'm thankful for all of you who came out and once again made the Minis a huge success.

Northern Indiana Baby Photographer | Lane's 3 Month Session It was so much fun to meet Mr. Lane for his three month session. When he arrived, he was all party and no business just kicking away, smiling and having a ball. He was a big boy, bigger than I had imagined him to be, so I had to rethink some of the baskets and props I had planned to use for him. "He's a big eater," Mom told me, which I witnessed later in the session when he took a snack break. In the end, we captured some wonderful photographs of Lane for his family to cherish because, I'm certain with that appetite, he won't stay that size much longer.

Rochester, Indiana Family Photographer | The Clevengers I was particularly excited for this session because I would be photographing the family of Shelby, one of my current wedding assistants! I had gotten to know Shelby pretty well through our work together the past year, and let me just say, she's a delight. I first met Shelby, her husband Zach, and Zach's family when I photographed their wedding last year, so I was very excited to work with them all again! Our session was planned in a lovely outdoor, wooded location. Nature, however, had other plans. Mean-hearted plans. Eight inches of blowing snow, blizzard plans. Luckily, they were able to arrange access to their beautiful church which offered multiple indoor spots to photograph the large family. Clevengers, even though things didn't go as planned, I'm happy to once again say, it was a pleasure.

Rochester, Indiana Portrait Photographer | Tyler Tyler sent me a message back in November requesting to have her photos taken and placed on a calendar for a gift. Who was the recipient of this fabulous calendar? Well, her lucky man of course! It was to be a present for their anniversary. Tyler arrived and showed me all of the outfits and props she had brought along that had significance to their relationship. We were going to do a different outfit for each month, the theme corresponding to that month. Tyler had some great ideas, and although she wouldn't admit it, she was a great model too! Here were a few of the favorites.

Northern Indiana Portrait Photographer | Emily Emily came down from Argos, Indiana to have some portraits taken to use on her prayer cards. Emily would be leaving soon for a missions trip which would last two years! I was immediately impressed and couldn't imagine the bravery one must possess to embark on such a journey, on her own away from family, friends, and everything she knows, all for the purpose of making the world a better place. You are an incredible inspiration, Emily, and I wish you luck on your trip.

Rochester, Indiana Newborn Photographer | Maddox I was swooning when I was first introduced to little Maddox. That thick dark hair and wrinkled nose were just too cute to bare. We began his newborn session with a family photo and some super sweet shots of Maddox with his brother. I loved watching the adoration Maddox's brother had for him as he held him in his arms. "Do you like being a big brother?" I asked him. With a big grin and a glance to his baby brother, he quietly replied with a simple yes.

After completing the family shots, I placed Maddox in a cozy basket, and he drifted to dreamland fairly quickly. I then positioned him into a new pose, and he let out some tiny "do not disturb" grunts. I couldn't help but smile along with Mom. "I had forgotten about all their little noises," I told her. This little guy was one big bundle of adorable from start to finish. What a pleasure it was to photograph him.

Rochester, Indiana Wedding Photographer | Ciara and Tyson I looked forward to Ciara and Tyson's New Years Eve wedding ever since our first meeting when they described ideas of confetti, sparklers and fireworks. The evening devoted to celebrating their marriage would extend into a memorable party to kick off the new year, and memorable it was! I met Ciara and her bridesmaids at the church, and the emotions were already flowing as Tyson repeatedly sent sentimental gifts to his bride-to-be. Later, the couple wed in a heartfelt ceremony with their friends and family looking on in adoration. I photographed the receiving line and witnessed hug after hug, sometimes accompanied by happy tears, all in honor of Tyson and Ciara.

Their reception was held in a nice building on Ciara's family farm complete with an impressive dinner, a cake cutting and dancing. The party continued on to midnight with a dance floor countdown to the new year. Confetti flew high, and the guests gathered out in the cold January air to witness an exciting fireworks show to celebrate. This wedding was beautiful, sweet, exciting and unique, and I was so privileged to capture the night for this lovely couple. Enjoy this peek into Ciara and Tyson's New Years Eve wedding celebration.
